Moonbot Uprising Iminent

New footage of nasa's lunar robot project called Athlete.

"It is designed for lunar cargo hauling, has full stereoscopic panoramic view and six 'legs' that can be used as wheels, legs, arms, power claws, plows and drills."

They say it may hit the moon in around a decade, but with the X-Prize for lunar landing still up for grabs we might have need for him sooner than that.

This shit is next-level. The JPL is one of the top-flight NASA laboratories. My favorite part was seeing the extra eyes open up next to the gripper--it looked like Johnny 5 was looking back at me.

When GWB announced that NASA was going back to the moon I just thought "I hope he doesn't get credit for launching this futuristic endeavor." These guys are the real heroes.

I'm with you yanos. This shit is real. Too bad that the lunar lander project that was held in the summer was such a bust. granted, that was a lot of amateurs, but there were a lot of big teams there too. and only one hovered.

I would like to place an optimistic prediction that amateur space people will reach something cool in the next few decades. They really have just started--I am a little surprised that guys have not been making shit like that in their backyards since the 60s. But I guess the computer tech is the real barrier--in the 60s and 70s nobody had a microprocessor around their house.
